Have you ever started a project and then once you realize how much time it is really going to take, you kind of wish you wouldn’t have??? That was totally how I felt with this crocheted chevron afghan. While I love it, and I am glad I completed it, it will be a LONG time before I do another!! I found a pattern for this on Pinterest and had to make it! I loved the colors she used, but I wanted to use the grey instead of the red since I am on a grey and yellow kick right now;) There are a few mistakes, but I am totally over it. I was not about to rip it out and start over! It’s only for us so I am fine with it.

My grandmother would be so proud of me!! She used to make these all the time for family members, and I do not have a clue why anyone would do more than one ever in their life time:) They take forever!! Definitely worth it, but wow! Maybe IF I do another, I will do it in the winter time because having this heavy blanket on me while completing each row is very warm!! The hubs loves it and used it last night and it covers him up (he’s 6’2″) so that’s probably why it took so long. I wanted to be sure that it would fit on him because all of our blankets only go so far on him and it’s a bit annoying because then he hoards all of the blankets!! :)

What do you think? You like??

I love the colours, they look woderful. Ripples do take a long time I remember the first time I made a ripple thinking the same thing that it took forever and I only made a cot one but the rest seemed to fly by. xx

Thanks Lindsay!! It was such a pain!! :) I can’t lie…I probably will do another, but I gotta rest for now with small projects… ones that can be completed in a day;)
I love the colors so much! How many skeins did you end up using for your 6’2” hubby???
It has been a while now, but I want to say it was 5 for each color. I know there were several trips to the store, but I am pretty sure that is right. ;) Thanks!

Hi Katie, it really looks lovely! I have also started one in winter and still haven’t finished it (up to now it’s about 6×4,5 ft) and it is taking me forever. It really is a labor of love, but if it looks as good as yours finished, well, it’s totally worth the time! xoxo Anja

I totally hate, abhor and loath crochet afghans. But I think yours may have just changed my mind, it is THAT awesome! If I were to ever have a crochet afghan in my house, this would be it. You did a fabulous job.

That makes me so happy!!!;) Some can be a “bit much” in terms of the way they look…I liked the idea of doing something “old” with a modern twist.. It makes me smile everytime I see anyone using it;)

I LOVE this blanket! The colors are perfect. I usually don’t have the patience for crocheting. The last time I crocheted was on a long road trip, I needed something to fill the time. You might laugh, but I was going to make mittens for my daughter this winter and I never finished the 2nd one, because I’m too impatient to sit there and do it. So, I’m sure I could not do a whole blanket. Thanks for sharing at Terrific Tuesdays.

Oh my goodness, This is absolutely gorgeous. You have to be so proud of yourself. I am doing a granny square afghan right now, and holy cats, it’s a gigantic time commitment. I am looking at your blanket, did you use DC’s instead of SC’s? Yours looks different than the pattern that you pinned, (in a good way).
Emily M recently posted..Newborn Earflap Hat — Baby Boy Creme Tweed with Brown Tweed Trim by MadeWithHeartByEmily
I did.. there was no way I was going to do it in sc’s ;) I could not even imagine how long that would take;)
Yes, well I definitely prefer the DC’s over the SC’s, it is absolutely gorgeous. I’m totally into Chevron stripes right now. If I could I would splash my entire house with them!! :)
This might be my next project.

Could you explain a little more about how you modified the pattern? I love the flatter ribs of yours so much more than the original pattern! Did you DC everytime the pattern says SC?
Yes, each time there was a sc, I did a SC and then chained 3 at the end of each row instead of 1. That was it.:)
What were the actual yarn and colors you used? My son loves the ones you picked, but I’m not sure I can duplicate the colors!
Hi katie
Can you post the pattern for this? or at least a link to where you fond it? I really like it.
Click on the word Pinterest in the text and it will link you to the pattern. The only difference is that I used double crochets.
Katie recently posted..Fantabulous Friday #36
Hello,
so I love this blankets texture and width of the chevron stripes I also found the original pattern and decided I wanted to do it in double crochet… So I was searching and came across your wonderful blanket and I was wondering how many chains you did to create the same blanket in the double crochet.
Thanks
Lady Daiss
This blanket is amazing! I was actually going to ask the same question as Amanda. It looks as though you did double crochets on this blanket instead of single crochets, like the pattern calls for. Is that the case, or do you just have a looser single crochet stitch and thinner yarn? I’m about to start making this blanket myself and I much prefer the look of your blanket to the look of the one in the original pattern. Thanks!!
Nevermind! I just saw the comment before last and saw that you said you used double crochets! Thanks!
I know it seems like a lot of work, but the results are stunningly beautiful. I want to try this pattern, thank you for sharing. I look forward to your next project.
Hi, I was wondering what yarn you used in your blanket? I loved the finished look and am looking forward to making one likes yours.
