DIY Chalkboard

A couple weekends ago, I was able to get my craft on…and it felt amazing! I have a bride this summer that was wanting to have a chalkboard for her ceremony. I knew this was something I could make!

I asked my dad if he was interested in a father son daughter project and of course he was up for it. I went out and purchased all of the materials and was super excited to get started.

The last father daughter project we did together was probably back in school making some school project. I remember doing a cotton gin for school which was pretty much awesome. Then we had to make a car in junior high that ran off of batteries (I had an unfair advantage because my dad is a mechanic:)) It was always a good time.

I asked my dad if he remembered making my mom a dishwasher…..not that kind of dishwasher. My mom would always tell us what she wanted for Christmas and then we would tell Dad and he would help us get it. This one particular year, she wanted a dishwasher. Well, that was pretty much not happening considering the cost was crazy. So, being the smart ass  good humored person that he is, he made a doll out of wood that would hold scrub brush and a sponge. Mom laughed so it was totally worth it.

For the chalkboard, I definitely needed help. I have used a drill before, but never for anything other than just putting in a screw. I never had to drill the hole first. It was quite a learning experience. Apparently, I drilled in the hole a bit crooked so my dad had to fix it…whatever. You live and you learn;)

Miss M Paint Chalkboard

Miss M was able to help with the painting which she was super excited about! We put two coats on of the chalkboard paint and waited for it to dry. While that was drying, we hung out with the family and enjoyed some time together.

Finally, when the paint was dry, we put it all together. It was my first time using a air staple gun…PS AMAZING! I am not sure why I would ever need to OWN one per se, but I want one. So easy and so fun!

The hinges were spray painted with some paint Dad had around for car parts, so that dried really quick:) Then it was time to put it all together…hinges, chain…ta da!

I had to touch up some spots on the stained part of the wood, but it was super easy and I am absolutely in love with it. Miss M even got to test it out to make sure it really was a chalkboard:)

All pictures were taken with my phone so I realize they are not the best quality:) I cannot wait to use this in a wedding and take some good pictures of it!! Thanks for stopping by!

Winter-Themed Wedding Reserved Cards

This past weekend, I needed to make some reserved cards for a bride we are working with. Her theme is a Winter Wedding and the decorations are gorge!! She just needed a little something for her reserved cards for the family tables, so I went ahead and got out my trust Silhouette Cameo and went to work.

I found this perfect Snowflake Place card and went to work. I had to resize the images a bit on the cutting mat so that they weren’t so small to be able to be viewed as a reserved card. Then, I simply changed around the grouping of the shapes so that I could cut them on different colored paper and it worked perfectly!

I met with her last night and she absolutley loved them!!!  I cannot wait to see them on the tables with her winter themed wedding decorations!!

Wedding Purses

Hi there!! You may remember that I made some purses for the bridesmaids of my friends upcoming wedding. Well… since those turned out so well, the mothers decided that they would like to have some as well. When I got back to the states, we went and picked out the fabric for each of the mothers/step-mothers. I am so happy with the way they look. Each one goes with the ladies’ dresses so well and it is perfect!

This first one is just brown fabric with a sheer brown/gold overlay with two peacock feathers under the sheer fabric. Love it!!

Loving this one!! Silver fabric to go with the mother’s dress and a simple brooch on a fabric yo-yo flower:) Super easy!

This one is the same concept as the first but with different feathers and different fabric. It matches the dress perfectly and I love it!!

This last one is adorable! I love the ribbon lace on it that makes it look old fashioned!

I would love to hear what you think! The mother’s were very happy so that makes it all worth it!

Princess Crown Birthday Banner

This little Princess Crown bunting banner was displayed at Miss M’s Princess Birthday Party that I shared here. I was pretty limited as far as what I could hang at the party because the location that we rented would not allow things to be hung or taped to the walls. It was very frustrating. But, I made this bunting banner for the main food table in order to be able to display the words “Happy Birthday” as necessary!!:)

I had originally wanted to do the triangular bunting like normal, but when I saw this shape at the Silhouette store, I absolutely had to try it out.

I cut out every other letter in “Happy Birthday” in purple or pink. Then the opposite was used as the color for the crown. Using double-sided scrapbooking tape, I attached the letters to the crowns. Super easy!

The last part to do was to add the holes in the crowns to string it onto the yarn to hang in front of the table. This was just done with a hole puncher. I suppose I could have done it with the Silhouette while I was cutting everything out, but this worked just as well. Using one strand that was 7 feet for the word “Happy” and another 8 foot long strand for the word “Birthday”, white yarn was used to string it in the front of the table which was 6 ft long. Because the holes from the hole puncher were quite a bit bigger than the yarn, it was rather easy to move the crowns around in order to center them properly on the table. It worked out perfectly.

My little princess had a beautiful and matching princess crown bunting banner that she just loved to wish her a special happy birthday. Thanks for stopping by!

Princess Birthday Party

The day was finally here this past Sunday! Miss M celebrated her 6th Birthday in style!! Thanks to Pinterest and a lot of missed sleep, the party came together perfectly. My friend Amy helped me set up and I seriously could not have done it without her. The princess birthday party was perfect!!

The food table was set with the girls’ party hats that I made with cups and lemonade. Each cup had a chalkboard vinyl cutout with their name on it.

This was the Arts and Crafts table. Each bag was an individual art kit for the children. The kit contained a dowel rod that was painted either pink or purple, a pre-cut star and a piece of chiffon for the wand. Then there was also a pre-cut crown for the girls to decorate with adhesive backed jewels. In the center of the table was an art box with glitter glues and markers to accessorize to their beautiful crowns and wands. Below you can see the crowns and adhesive back jewels that were in each kit.

Miss M showing off her hat and wand that she made:) She is such a sassy 6-year-old!!

Another angle of the eating table. The pink lemonade in the middle was perfect and went with the theme of pink  and princessy! The girls even decorated their party hats with some of the jewels left from their wands and crowns.

I just love these party hats. I found the template to make them here and they were so easy.

These cake pops were amazing! The girls (and parents) absolutely loved them!!

What’s a party without some cookies! And of course, iced with the pink and purple frosting to go with the theme:)

Using my crown cookie cutter, I made some turkey and cheese, and ham and cheese sandwiches to eat before eating up all the sugary goodness!!

Princessy cupcakes with crown liners and crown accessories on top. All done with my Silhouette Cameo;). I absolutely love that thing!

Again, using the Silhouette Cameo, I made a Happy Birthday bunting banner in the shape of crowns to go with the whole princessy theme!

And of course, the beautiful birthday girl! She had such an incredible time. I had made the pettiskirt last week and posted about that here, and then decorated the tank top and made a headband to match. Strangely enough, it was kind of chilly here in Germany, so she had to wear a cardigan for the first half because she was “a bit cold” :)

All in all, it was a great time, the girls had a blast, dancing to Justin Bieber..(that might have been my idea…) and everyone was full of sugar by the time they had to go home.

I will be posting more from this in the weeks to come on how each thing was done so make sure you stop back by for more! Thanks for stopping by!!;)
